Specified for the climate it has to survive.
Trinidad is demanding on paint. Ultraviolet load runs high year-round, the rainy season brings months of wind-driven water, and anything near the coast is exposed to salt. A film formulated for a temperate climate can chalk, blister or lose adhesion here within a couple of seasons.
PPG tests its formulations against those conditions, including accelerated weathering, salt-spray, humidity cycling and adhesion testing on substrates common to Caribbean construction: block, render and previously coated concrete.
We hold the residential lines in depth and bring in the industrial systems to order, with the technical data sheets to match. If you are writing a specification, ask for them at the counter.

Over 2,000 formulas, mixed in store.
Colours are mixed to a PPG formula on a calibrated dispenser and shaken in store. Bring in a fabric swatch, a cabinet door or a photograph and the spectrophotometer can match it.

(04)Before you paint
Things worth knowing.
Preparation
Wash off chalk and salt, let damp substrates dry, fill and sand, and prime anything bare, chalky or glossy. A premium topcoat over an unprepared wall will fail sooner than a budget one over a prepared wall.
Choosing a sheen
Flat hides an imperfect wall but cannot be scrubbed. Eggshell and satin wipe clean and show more of the surface underneath. Semi-gloss suits trim and wet rooms. Sheen is worth choosing for how the surface will be used, not only for appearance.
Coverage rates are data-sheet figures
400 sq ft per gallon assumes a smooth, primed, previously painted surface. Bare block, stucco or heavy texture can take 20-30% more, and a strong colour change may need three coats. Our paint calculator uses the data-sheet rate, so allow extra for rough substrates.
Colour on a wall differs from a chip
A colour chip is small and lit by showroom light. The same colour across a wall in daylight generally reads lighter and more saturated. A sample pot and a test patch, checked at a few times of day, is worth doing before a large order.
